Life Changing Experience
The saga from my trip to India continues this week. I was at a point of the story where I was steadily climbing up towards a pass I had to get over at 18,000 to 20,000 feet in elevation. I was 10 days into this climb when I mistakenly chose a path that shot up so far and so fast I wound up in a predicament. I ran low on water needed for cooking my meal that night and I recognized signs of altitude sickness. I had a burst of adrenaline that allowed me to get very high in eleva

Jonestown Survivor
Now that Thanksgiving is behind us it is time to focus on December. At Garden Works we got our Christmas trees in 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. We call everyone who got a tree delivered last year to remind them that it is time to come and pick one out. We put those trees into stands and let the trees drink up some water so they will stay fresh. We have delivered a lot of the trees that got bought early but mostly people wait until after Thanksgiving to get them delivered. The

Thanksgiving from a Hubcap
THIS WEEK IS GOING to be one that big decisions will be made by most fami- lies: the decision to get everyone together to feast as is the tradition of every other Thanksgiving. It will be different no matter how each family decides to celebrate. I was thinking about some of the Thanksgiving celebrations from my past and realized I have had more Thanksgiving celebrations than someone my age would have. First of all I come from a very traditional family and I married into a ver

Mountain Folk
The last time I wrote about my adventure in India I had acclimatize for 10 days in Kashmir, I was ready to head farther into the Himalaya. My goal was to get into the region close to Tibet. I would cross over into the Ladakh region, the remote monastery and city of Leh is the only Destination I could find a bus goes to. After getting at least six opinions from anyone I could communicate with I found the bus and the schedule. I was to be back to the bus corral at six

Busy Week
I have had another interesting week of agricultural activities in my world. The week after Mia and Cody’s wedding we attended our good friends wedding of their son at a beautiful venue in Flora. The place is on highway 22, it’s name is Bridalwood of Madison. A perfect place for a wedding, there was an outdoor space for a wedding if weather allows, which it did perfectly. There is also an indoor space for those times that the weather sends us indoors. The rehearsal festivities

Time Keeps on Slipping
It seems like this year has suddenly geared into warp speed. We have Halloween behind us, daylight saving time is upon us and Mia’s wedding has come and gone. I guess I keep such a sharp focus on those things that when they are in my rear view mirror I don’t know which thing to focus on next. Right now the next focus will be getting the Christmas trees in and, the hard part, getting them tied to the top of your car on their way to a happy home. The trees will be arriving eith

Don't let Mondays ruin your Sundays
Mimi, her mom, and I pulled out of Ridgeland headed toward Greenville, South Carolina. We were like a traveling circus with our trailer full of decorations, props, tools, and bags packed for some “work” days, rehearsal dinner clothes, and mother and father of the bride clothes. Mia and Cody got hitched the weekend of October 18. Those two had already done most of the hard work—at least the parts I would dread most. They had secured a wonderful venue for the rehearsal dinner a

Plants, Pumpkins, & Pinot 2025
As we roll into October, there is a change in the air. We have finally reached the temperatures that make things shift in our yards — and in our spirits. The air is crisp because the humidity is lower, and it seems like there’s less haze in the sky, which always leads to that October sunburn. I imagine it must feel this way in parts of Colorado all summer long. With our nighttime temperatures dipping into the 60s, it takes much longer in the day to get hot — and by the time i
